The Latest from the Lungs

February 2010

Dear Friends,

Our special thanks to the kids at First Christian Church in Roanoke Rapids for the generous gift that allowed us to purchase a log splitter. We found a real nice one and was able to purchase it and bring it home. Billy and I got all the fluids in it and started it up. We had a big pile of wood to split and so we tested it out. Before long we had tested it to the point that our pile was gone and a new pile of wood was split and ready to be stacked! Thanks again.

It cost Open Door Christian Ministries about $500 dollars with postage and toner cartridges every time we print and mail the Newsletter. In order to cut the cost and save paper we are offering a monthly e-newsletter to those who want to sign-up. All you have to do is send us you e-mail address and we will add it to our list to send out. We will continue to send out the quarterly newsletter to those who do not have email. Feel free to print off as many as you need to hang on the bulletin board or give to others. You can also forward them on to those who you think might enjoy our newsletter.

Boy, has the bug gone around the house this month. Everyone of us has had it at one time or another... some of us more than once! It's easy when you are sitting on the john with you head in a wastebasket to wish feel sorry for yourself. It's easy to think it might be better just to meet Jesus on that celestial shore. But I can't help but think of what Jesus said in John 11 about his friend, Lazarus, and his illness: "When he heard this, Jesus said, 'This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God's glory so that God's Son may be glorified through it.'" The Lord used his illness to glorify God. So I have to wonder, how can God be glorified in my sickness? Maybe it's how we handle it. Am I whiny and hard to deal with or do I praise God even when I don't feel like it. I remember a good friend who was dying of cancer. I didn't look forward to visiting her because I knew she was going to die. But after only being in the room a few minutes I could feel the glory of God reflected in her countenance. That is how we should be.

Well, it's back to school for us adults. Yes, Wendy, Kris, Chelly, and myself have started training with Social Services MAPP (Model Approach to Partnership in Parenting). Wendy and I were certified in this several years back and decided to go through it again with Kris and Shelly as they begin working with the home. Wendy has also resumed her schooling on-line for elementary education. Please be praying for us!

This month has been slow as far as presentations. When I don't have a presentation I try to visit area churches. I enjoyed worshipping at Union Grove Church of Christ and spending time with my friend, Scott Askew and the wonderful folks there. On the 21st I took the boys with me and visited Macedonia Church of Christ for Sunday School and worship. We had a great visit and even worked in lunch with the folks at the Rely For Life Pig Pickin.

Don't forget to schedule a presentation. I will be giving a presentation at Gold Point Church of Christ on March 7th at 6:00pm and at Philippi Church of Christ on March 21st at 6:00 p.m.. I am looking forward to speaking at the Area Youth Rally at Woodards Pond Church of Christ on March 29th at 7:00 p.m. Other dates are open in March.

Thank you again for your support.

God Bless You,

Loren Harold Lung
