The Latest from the Lungs

January 2009

Dear Friends,

Christmas is always a time that we cherish. When I was younger, of course, it was visions of Santa Claus, cookies, and presents. As I grow older I appreciate what the season means and what God has done. I find myself drawn more and more to church, the scriptures, and the joy of children. I love to the decorations and the lights. What a festive time. And when January rolls around and the lights come down, the world seems so dark and cold. What an interesting analogy to the sinful situation of the world today. How we wait with anticipation for Christ's coming again to once more bring light into this world. How important it is for us as Christians to spread the good news and shine the light of hope into the world.

The kids had a great Christmas this year. And it wasn't just about what they "got" either. The kids enjoyed a visit to the nursing home, spreading Christmas cheer to the elderly. They also helped make fruit baskets to take to the shut-ins from church. The children also enjoyed shopping for their families, friends, and teachers with their own money. Some of the kids made cookies and treats to share with others. We also made cards to send out hoping to spread a little Christmas joy and wonder.

Our special thanks for all the churches, organizations, and businesses that helped bring joy to the children this Christmas. Your generosity is appreciated so much. These children will never forget the great things you have done for them. I am always amazed at the love that comes through from all our supporters. I can't thank you enough.

I want to thank those who also were able to help us put some meat in the freezer this year. We really are appreciative because meat prices have gone up so much. We usually try to get meat from the food bank but you are always at the mercy of getting what was donated to them and it may not be what you need. We can always use hamburger, deer meat, bacon, sausage, ham, and turkey.

As we look into the new year, we want to serve the Lord all the more in our ministry to children and families. We are praying for new and increased support so that we can open Unit 2. We are also looking for new applicants and new resources for receiving applications. We are praying for God to lead us boldly where he would have us go. And we are asking you to join us on this wonderful journey of service, love, and mercy.

If you would like to schedule a presentation, a work-day, or a retreat, please feel free to call the office. We would love to share with you the ministry and vision of Open Door Christian Ministries.

Thank you again for your support.

God Bless You,

Loren Harold Lung
