The Latest from the Lungs
June 2010
Dear Friends,
Busy, busy, busy. I always love the summer but it seems to go so fast. There are vacations, camp, presentations, VBS programs, and summer activities. Not to mention gardens to be weeded, mowing to be done, and a pool to be skimmed, vacuumed, and treated chemically. Call me crazy but I love the heat and get more done in the summer. But it always goes to fast.
Chelly, Thomas, Michael, and I tackled the job of putting a new liner in the pool. It was a bear to get out but I was surprised at how easy the new one went in. We were able to get the job done and filled in less than a week. It really turned out nice and is almost like having a new pool. The bad news was the cost (about $400.00). The good news is that we won't spend as much having to top it off with water every day.
Thomas, Michael and Donovin had there music recital this month. Donovin plays the piano and is doing quite well. Michael also plays the piano and composed his own piece to play. Thomas has come very far on his guitar. Miss Suzy, his teacher, says that he needs a more advanced teacher for next year. Thomas would also like to learn to play the bass guitar and drums.
This month we have workgroups coming from Geneva Park Church of Christ in Virginia and New Lisbon Christian Church in Indiana. We really appreciate the jobs these groups get done at Open Door. They do an integral service here at the home.
June means Vacation Bible School and we have VBS programs at Poplar Chapel Church of Christ, Philippi Church of Christ, St. Clair's Church of Christ, and Community Christian Church of Christ (Richlands, NC). The children really love to help Open Door by bringing their offering and donated items. We encourage all the children to pray daily for the kids here at the home. We really appreciate their kind and generous hearts.
Next month we will be heading to Indiana for the North American Christian Convention. Donovin is looking forward to it especially. He has been saving up his money to buy a new Bible. We have a new display we purchased from RBC especially for the convention. We are working hard to get everything ready to go. I especially love connecting with old friends and new contacts. The NACC is wonderful convention with inspirational speakers, helpful workshops, and a wonderful teen program. The music is awesome.
Please pray for us. Pray for the children. Pray for more new residents.
