The Latest from the Lungs

Dear Friends,
This has been a interesting and wonderful month. It started off for me with a visit to the doctor to get the results of my physical and lab work (yuk). I always dread this cause the doctor usually looks at my labs and makes that clicking noise to show he isn't pleased. Sure enough, he said my Triglycerides were creeping up and he was going to put me on medication. I didn't want to be put on anymore medication so I ask him what my alternatives would be (as if I didn't know). "Lose weight", he said. I told him I would try. That night I joined weight watchers.
Over Mother's Day weekend we were invited to Kernersville to First Christian Church. Ben Ziegler and the wonderful folks there took care of us and really spoiled us. The asked us to come as they were having a fund raiser to help with a missions project for the home. The children stayed in the homes of some of their members and enjoyed pizza and movies and other fun things. Wendy and I were put up in a hotel room for some personal time. On Saturday the kids were treated to inflatable games which they had set up in their auditorium while the adults were running the race to raise funds. Afterwards it was off to Chik-fil-a for lunch and then a fun-filled afternoon at Celebration Station. The church picked up the tab for everything and we really enjoyed our time getting to know the folks there at the church.
Things are getting down to the wire as Daniel and Lea Ann plan on getting married on June 7. There is a lot of preparations going on to get everything ready. Who knew there would be so much to do to get things done.
The pool is ready for the season and the kids are really enjoying their time in it. The water is still a bit chilly and they don't stay in it long but warm weather is just around the corner.
The garden is looking nice. We now have corn, green beans, onions, squash, cucumbers, cabbage, potatoes, collards, bell peppers and jalapeno peppers planted. I am hoping the weather cooperates and that we have a great garden this year.
The board is busy looking for house parents to open unit two. We have had a few good bites and are following up on some leads. The Unit will be empty in June and we are hoping to have the new house parents in place before the summer is up.
Open Door Christian Ministries is doing well but the economy has really taken a turn south and is starting to bite us. We have had a small drop in support due to the economy and the high prices of fuel, utilities, and supplies is starting to hurt a bit.
We are currently seeking new support for the ministry as well as asking our supports to increase there giving.God has blessed us over and over again. On September 21, 2008, we are asking churches across North Carolina, Virginia, and beyond to join us in celebrating Open Door Day. During this time we are asking churches to show a DVD presentation (less than 5 minutes) during their service, to commit to pray for the ministry, and to take up a special love offering.
We know that times are tight everywhere. But God has big pockets and generous hearted people who will fill the needs of the ministry.
God Bless You,
Loren Harold Lung
