The Latest from the Lungs

November 2008

Dear Friends,

October was great. We had a great appreciation dinner in spite of the cool weather. We also enjoyed hosting the group from Kernersville who blessed us in more ways than I can tell you. We had a great time with the brothers and sisters at Tranter's Creek Church of Christ for their fall festival. I was blessed to preach a revival at Christian Hope Church of Christ. And we celebrated God's victory over some unpleasant business that needed to be handled.

The weather has turned cool and it's time to winterize buildings. Mr. Billy is finally done with the grass for the season and we are getting our list of jobs ready for him to do over the winter. There is always so much to do with maintenance of buildings, equipment, and vehicles. We are planning on building a compost for the garden as well as some lumber bins, garden swings, and some benches. Billy is also in charge of keeping the mice out of unit 2 and keeping the water softner running. There is always plenty to do.

We have turned our minds toward the Thanksgiving and Christmas season. We are anxious for all the holiday trappings, materialism and commercialism that come with it though. Instead, we are looking forward to the joy of fellowship and the unending love of Christ. Sometimes it feels as though Thanksgiving gets drowned out by  "buy me that" and "I want this" preceding Christmas day. But we are looking at ways we can thank God during this season and everyday of the Christmas season as well. I want to carry my thanks not only this one day but everyday of the year. God has done so much for us.

We have had some churches that have already contacted us about Christmas parties and gift ideas for the kids. We have listed sizes, suggestions, ideas, and some of the likes and needs of the kids on this website. If you decided to do something for the kids please be in mind that some of the kids will be leaving Open Door for the holidays on December 19th and returning Jan 2nd. Some of the kids will be here for the holidays with special visits from their parents.  Feel free to contact us with your questions.

Thank you again for your support.

God Bless You,

Loren Harold Lung
