The Latest from the Lungs

November 2009

Dear Friends,

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. I know that sounds scary... lots of things to do...decorations, shopping, gifts to wrap, pictures to take, cards to send, cookies and baking, and on and on. I must admit that I am already behind before I ever get started. I usually like to have the house decorated by the end of the month but It's Thanksgiving and I haven't even got stuff down from the attic yet. One thing I do know... the Nativity Scene is going to be set out and we are going to have a new stable. Let's remember what the season is all about.

Thanksgiving was a great time for us. We shared our Thanksgiving feast with "Grandma Myrtle and Grandpa Richard". Myrtle had been ill and so the family did a pitch-in style meal in the Fellowship Hall at Maple Grove Christian Church. we all had a good time visiting and eating. I think Thanksgiving is one of the best holidays at Open Door. Our Open Door Family has really been blessed and it is good to see all the kids laughing and having a good time around the table.

In Psalm 65:11, David says, "You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance." I am reminded of this when I think about all that God has done for us. The pantry at Open Door is full and we have been blessed enough to share with needy families in our community. Psalm 65 has two points: God shows delight in his creation by His provision of good rain and good harvest and there will be a future time of tremendous harvest with the coming of God’s kingdom to earth. Thanksgiving always reminds me of the "wedding feast" that we will enjoy in heaven one day. These few precious moments with the children around the table are just a glimpse of what is to come.

This really had a good month. I enjoyed visits to Old Ford Church of Christ, Scuppernong Church of Christ, Maple Grove Christian Church, First Church of Christ in Washington, and Zions Chapel Church of Christ. I was pleased to be able to talk to the Missions Committees at Philippi Church of Christ and also Towne South Church of Christ. But I believe the highlight of the month was going to First Church of Christ for their missions fair. It was great to see old friends and meet new ones. I really am enjoying being able to travel for the home.

If you would like to schedule a presentation or missions committee update please feel free to call. I would love to come and visit you.

Thank you again for your support.

God Bless You,

Loren Harold Lung
