The
Purpose
of Open Door Christian Ministries is to be an
extension of the work of the New Testament Church in serving the needs of young
people. Open Door Christian
ministries strives to minister to the children by maintaining a loving,
disciplined, Christian environment in the home.
We try to instill in our young people a sense of self-worth and
responsibility.
The scriptures say “bring them up in the training and instruction of the
Lord”. (Ephesians 6:4)
Because of the problems created by adults, children are often orphaned,
abandoned, neglected, and abused. It
is our desire to provide a Christian home in which these children can be cared
for and show the love of Christ. In
return, they learn to love God, others and themselves.
As one of the young people who lived at Open Door wrote, “Open
Door means a new beginning and a chance to be a better person.
It means family, love, caring and a lifetime of support.
Open Door means a chance to feel what God’s love is all about.”
We operate
on a “levels system” of childcare. This
levels system is designed as an aid to change inappropriate behavior and reward
appropriate behavior. Children move
up and down on a six level scale, depending on the number of demerits received
during an evaluation period. They
are evaluated every two weeks. Although
this is not the only method of discipline used, it is our primary system.
